Biography
Israel Berlin was a white Communist worker in Birmingham, Alabama imprisoned in 1935 on a framed 'literature' charge under the state's ban on radical publications. He was held in solitary confinement in the basement of the Birmingham city jail, his health broken, with roughly ten months still to serve.
