Biography
Ignatz Szteklek was a conscientious objector from Ohio imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 20 years in prison, reduced to 1 year. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: did not register for draft; interviewed by Bd. at Camp Gordon; charged with disobedience of orders; sentenced to 20 years in prison, reduced to 1 year; Russian (not a U.S. citizen); a C.O.???
