Biography

Hazel Wolf was a Canadian-born Seattle woman — later a celebrated environmental organizer — subjected to repeated deportation proceedings for alleged past Communist Party membership. In 1957 she won a stay of the government's sixth deportation attempt in eight years, her attorney arguing she had been wrongly classified as an alien.

Note: One secondary source gives a death date of January 24, 2000; this record uses January 19, 2000 (University of Washington and contemporaneous coverage).
