Biography
Paul Bowen was a Seattle Smith Act defendant, one of those tried in the Northwest prosecutions for conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the government. He was acquitted, and afterward spoke publicly about the case.
Paul L. Bowen was the leader of the Seattle Negro Labor Council and a Communist prosecuted under the Smith Act during the McCarthy era. He was convicted on October 9, 1953, of conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government.
