Biography
Grady Jenkins was a New Orleans maritime worker and civil-rights activist arrested in early 1957 under Louisiana's criminal-anarchy and anti-subversion laws after he and his wife refused to answer the Eastland Senate subcommittee. Suffering from tuberculosis, he was shackled to his hospital bed when arrested; his defense argued the state laws were void under the Supreme Court's Nelson ruling.
