Biography
George Bingula was a union coal miner of Harmarville, Pennsylvania, arrested several times by the coal-and-iron police during a Pittsburgh-district coal strike. He was jailed after a picket-line clash with a deputy and, in a later incident, shot through the leg by a drunken deputy — one of the many rank-and-file miners caught up in the coal-field violence of the late 1920s.
