Biography
Pat Toohey, a young communist miner and editor of the insurgents' paper The Coal Digger, was arrested and beaten by a state trooper in Renton, Pennsylvania in March 1928 for an anti-war speech during the great soft-coal strike. He became a leading figure of the National Miners Union.
