Biography
David Annarelli is known both for his writing and advocacy from prison and for the violent incident that led to his incarceration. In Virginia, authorities say he was arrested after a domestic disturbance call in Floyd County ended with a sheriff’s deputy being shot. Annarelli later entered a no-contest plea to malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, after which other charges were dropped, and he received a 15-year sentence. While incarcerated under the Virginia Department of Corrections, he has publicly argued for sentence review mechanisms and written extensively about confinement conditions, medical care, and the human impact of long prison terms.
