Biography
Charlie Mammen was a Taylorville miner arrested with his wife after being beaten in a police raid on his home on his return from the ILD convention during the Illinois coal strike of 1929–30. During the 1929–30 Illinois coal strike, the National Miners' Union led rank-and-file miners against both the operators and the Lewis machine of the United Mine Workers. Militia and deputies jailed strike leaders wholesale around Taylorville and the Franklin County fields.
