Biography
Cameron Rose was arrested about a month after a December 2011 confrontation at an Occupy Oakland teepee vigil outside Oakland City Hall, in which he was accused of striking a police officer with a folding chair. Taken into custody on January 22, 2012, he was held in pretrial detention because he could not post the unusually high 130,000-dollar bond. A jury convicted him of resisting an executive officer and misdemeanor assault on a peace officer while acquitting him of felony assault with a deadly weapon; the judge suspended imposition of a prison sentence and placed him on five years probation, with no additional jail. His exact release date is not publicly confirmed; he was released upon that disposition. His case is better understood as pretrial political detention than a prison sentence.
