Biography

Aunt Molly Jackson was a midwife, balladeer and National Miners' Union activist of the Straight Creek section of Bell County, Kentucky, whose songs of the coal wars made her a famous voice of the Harlan miners. Jailed during the 1931–32 Kentucky coal strike, she and her family were driven out of the state; her brothers were also arrested and hunted in the criminal-syndicalism drive.
