CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS & MILITARY RESISTERS
Service members who refused deployment, deserted, or otherwise resisted participation in U.S. wars. From World War I draft resisters and Vietnam-era objectors through Iraq War resisters Ehren Watada, Camilo Mejía, Stephen Funk, Kimberly Rivera, Jeremy Hinzman, and Chelsea Manning. Many faced prosecution by court-martial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice rather than civilian criminal law.
