Biography
Woollcott Smith was a Michigan State University student, born about 1941, who later became a statistics professor at Temple University and coauthored The Cartoon Guide to Statistics and rode from Nashville to Jackson and was arrested on July 29, 1961 — one of the arrests recorded by the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission and preserved in the Civil Rights Digital Library. The catalog establishes the arrest, the participation, and the individually identified police photograph, but not the court disposition, any transfer to Parchman, or the physical release date; those fields are unresolved pending county-jail, court, or penitentiary records.
Catalog materials render his name Wolcott and Woollcodt in places, and one photograph title misdates the arrest July 21; the date field and biography correctly give July 29.
