Biography

William Weiner was the Communist Party USA's national treasurer, convicted in February 1940 on a passport-fraud technicality — the jury deliberating about twenty-five minutes — the same class of charge used to imprison Earl Browder. The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to review his case alongside Browder's; the left argued he was effectively convicted of being a Communist.
