Biography

William Albertson was a Communist Party leader arrested in Michigan in 1951 for removal to Pittsburgh as one of the western Pennsylvania Smith Act defendants. (He was later, in 1964, expelled from the Party after the FBI forged a document to frame him as an informer.)

Charges: Smith Act — conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the government (Pittsburgh group).
Sentence: Convicted; reversed on later appeal.
Convicted: Arrested 1951; tried with the Pittsburgh Smith Act defendants.
