Biography

Vincent Hallinan was a combative San Francisco trial lawyer who defended longshore leader Harry Bridges in his 1949–50 denaturalization and perjury trial. For his aggressive courtroom defense, Judge George Harris jailed him for contempt of court; the Supreme Court declined to review, and Hallinan served six months — after which he ran for President in 1952 on the Progressive Party ticket.
