Biography

Syed Talha Ahsan became the focus of a prolonged extradition struggle between the United Kingdom and the U.S., tied to allegations that a London–based entity, Azzam Publications, provided material support services to militants abroad through publishing and fundraising activity. After years of legal proceedings in the UK, he was extradited to the U.S. in 2012 and first appeared in federal court in Connecticut.

In December 2013, Ahsan (alongside Babar Ahmad) pleaded guilty in New Haven to material-support-related offenses connected to online operations, including support for militants in Chechnya and Afghanistan, including the Taliban. In 2014 he was sentenced to time served and returned to the UK later that year.
