Biography
Babar Ahmad was a political prisoner on charges of providing support to terrorist organizations due to a website he owned which at one point gave support to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The British government declared there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him for any law, but the US wanted to extradite him so he could be prosecuted there. He was then detained in prison from 2004 until his extradition in 2012. His extradition was approved in 2005, but there was a lot of bureaucratic red tape to cross involving the European Union, British Parliament, and other bodies.
After arriving in the US he spent two years in a Supermax prison in solitary confinement. At his trial, the judge gave him a sentence which gave him only a few more months in prison due to his credit for time spent in prison over the last decade.
