Biography

Sherman Snyder was a Pentecostal conscientious objector from Maryland imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 15 years in prison. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: arrived at Camp Meade on Nov. 7, 1917 & assigned to Co. G, 131 Infantry; declared a CO on Nov. 11, 1917; court-martialed?; sentenced to 15 years in prison; imprisoned Nov. 25, 1918; had received a public school education; unmarried
