Biography
An Indigenous animal-rights and environmental activist, Coronado became a prominent figure in underground direct-action campaigns associated with the Animal Liberation Front. In February 1992, an arson attack destroyed records and disrupted research at a Michigan State University mink research facility; Coronado was later convicted in the case.
After a period as a fugitive and a 1994 arrest, he was sentenced in 1995 to four years and nine months in federal prison for the Michigan State arson and ordered to pay restitution under the terms of his case. The prosecution became one of the best-known federal cases involving 1990s-era animal-rights sabotage tactics.
Pascua Yaqui Native American eco-anarchist and animal rights activist, longtime advocate for the Animal Liberation Front and spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front. On September 16, 2010 the federal government returned him to federal prison for accepting a Facebook friend request — held to violate the terms of probation stemming from prior ALF/ELF convictions, after a year and a half on the outside.
