Robert Manewitz was one of five St. Louis Smith Act defendants convicted in 1956 of conspiring to advocate the overthrow of the government. After the Supreme Court's Yates decision their convictions were reversed and a retrial ordered; in October 1958 the government 'reluctantly' dropped further prosecution.
