Biography
Peter Harry Stoner was arrested as a Freedom Rider in Jackson, Mississippi on July 2, 1961 — the Civil Rights Digital Library holds his 1961 arrest photograph. While organizing voter registration in Hattiesburg in 1964 he was arrested five times and spent several months in the Forrest County work camp, performing road construction and suffering beatings. Neither custody period's exact dates are established in the catalog, so the 1964 spans are described in the text rather than entered as dates.
