Biography

Mathilda Carman was a New York City Department of Welfare case worker convicted of perjury in November 1957 for denying Communist affiliations before Mayor Wagner's Investigation Commission. Detectives had forced their way into her home to arrest her; sentenced to 60 days, she fought the New York Security Risk Law on appeal before the Appellate Division.
