Biography
Mateen Abdul Shaheed is a black youth, born and raised in Portland. On November 10th, 2016, Portland filled with over ten thousand people hitting the streets in protest to the election of Donald Trump; 20-year-old Shaheed was one of them. In the Pearl District, one of Portland’s most gentrified neighborhoods, there were much acts vandalizing car dealerships and city infrastructure in response to the city's history of racism. In the coming days, there would be many protests and confrontations between the people and the police.
Mateen is accused of causing damage in a car dealership and other infrastructure items such as electrical boxes in the city. He pleaded guilty to five counts of first and second-degree criminal mischief and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was released in 2018.
