Biography

Revolutionary War veteran (captain, Massachusetts Continentals) and West Springfield, MA farmer; co-leader of Shays' Rebellion in the Connecticut River valley. Commanded the western wing of the rebel attempt to seize the Springfield Armory on January 25, 1787. After the rout, fled to Vermont and then New York to avoid capital prosecution. Pardoned with the other rebellion leaders.
