Biography

Lena Davis Scherer, who came from Russia in 1913 and was the wife of labor organizer Marcel Scherer, was arrested for deportation in 1958 on a charge of being a present member of the Communist Party. She was freed on $2,500 bail while the government disputed her claim of derivative citizenship.
