Biography

Khaleel Sultarn Sayyed was a Black Liberation Front member arrested in New York on February 16, 1965, in the prosecution alleging plans to destroy national monuments. His co-defendants included Walter Augustus Bowe, Robert Steele Collier and Michelle Duclos.

At trial Sayyed denied intending to participate in violence and testified that he favored nonviolent demonstration. The jury convicted him and the other two men on June 14, 1965. Their entrapment and other appellate challenges failed, and the Second Circuit affirmed the convictions on April 28, 1966. A National Park Service-sponsored history reports that the men's initial ten-year sentences were later reduced to five years. Sayyed's exact custody endpoints and prison placement remain unverified.
