Biography
Toure—born Christopher King—became part of the United Freedom Front’s underground politics in the late 1970s and early 1980s, during which the group carried out bombings, arsons, and robberies framed as opposition to U.S. intervention abroad and to apartheid. His arrest in 1982 occurred during a law-enforcement operation in Massachusetts that turned violent, with reports of a shootout and injuries to state troopers.
He was later prosecuted in the broader set of cases aimed at dismantling the United Freedom Front, including conspiracy charges that produced long sentences for multiple defendants. After serving years in custody, he was released in the 1990s, and his case has continued to be cited in debates over the boundary between militant direct action and the criminal-justice response to clandestine political movements.
