Biography
Laura Whitehorn emerged from 1960s-era civil rights and anti-war organizing into a trajectory of feminist education work and, later, militant anti-imperialist politics. She became associated with the Weather Underground milieu and later with the May 19 Communist Organization, a small underground group tied to a series of bombings in the 1980s, including the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Senate and attacks on other government-related targets.
Whitehorn was arrested on May 11, 1985, in Baltimore in connection with what became known as the “Resistance Conspiracy” case. In 1990 she agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy and destruction of government property, as well as fraud related to false identification documents found during the investigation. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was released on parole in 1999 after serving just over 14 years.
