Biography

Julius Eichel, David's brother, was a Jewish socialist absolutist imprisoned during World War I after refusing the draft. Held in the Tombs, at Fort Jay on Governor's Island, and at Fort Leavenworth, he joined the December 1918 delegation that pressed Secretary of War Baker on behalf of imprisoned objectors and was released in 1920. He spent the rest of his life as a pacifist organizer, editing "The Absolutist" and helping found Friends and Families of Imprisoned Conscientious Objectors.
