Joyce Parkhurst was a Los Angeles Catholic Worker who participated in the Ash Wednesday March 5, 2003 blockade of the downtown Los Angeles federal building, two weeks before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Sentenced to 45 days federal custody beginning May 1, 2003.
On Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2003 — two weeks before the U.S. invasion of Iraq — Los Angeles Catholic Workers blockaded an intersection at the downtown Los Angeles federal building in liturgical antiwar witness. They received 45-day federal sentences. Arrested for the "De-fence" action at the Nevada Nuclear Weapons Test Site (Nevada National Security Site / Mercury, NV) — anti-nuclear nonviolent civil disobedience involving cutting or pulling down the perimeter fence to enter the Test Site. Held at the Nye County Detention Center in Tonopah, NV.
