Biography

Joseph Caruso was an Italian immigrant textile worker in Lawrence, Massachusetts and a rank-and-file striker during the 1912 Bread and Roses strike. He was the third defendant — alongside IWW organizers Joseph Ettor and Arturo Giovannitti — charged as an accessory to the police killing of striker Anna LoPizzo in a transparent attempt to crush the strike. Caruso was acquitted along with Ettor and Giovannitti by an Essex County jury in November 1912.
