Biography
John T. Watkins was a United Auto Workers organizer who admitted his own past cooperation with the Communist Party but refused, as a matter of principle, to name others before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Convicted of contempt of Congress, his appeal became the landmark 1957 Supreme Court decision Watkins v. United States.
