Biography
James Egan was secretary of the Communist-led Steel and Metal Workers Industrial Union. After the 1933–34 struggle at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, where sheriff's deputies attacked and killed striking steelworkers, he was prosecuted for his organizing and sentenced to a year in prison, a case the ILD publicized in the drive to crush steel-union organizing in the Beaver Valley.
