Biography
Ian Wallace, age 27, was convicted in 2001 of attempting to cause damage in excess of $1,000 to United States property at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan, in connection with two ELF-claimed incendiary devices that did not detonate. Sentenced to 36 months federal prison.
A clarification of the case chronology: the arsons — at Michigan Technological University in Houghton and a nearby US Forest Service facility — took place in November 2001, but Wallace, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, was not charged until years later, pleading guilty in September 2008 and receiving a three-year federal sentence in March 2009, served at FCI Elkton until his release on January 12, 2012. He went on to earn a doctorate in anthropology.
