Glenda Jean Gaither was an eighteen-year-old Claflin College student arrested after arriving by train in Jackson, Mississippi on May 30, 1961 as a Freedom Rider. Her birth year, about 1943, is derived from her reported age at arrest. The Civil Rights Digital Library holds her named arrest photograph, whose title misspells her name Glinda. Her disposition and release are unresolved in the catalog record.
