George Q. Cannon

George Quayle Cannon was an LDS apostle, Utah's territorial delegate to Congress, and First Counselor in the LDS First Presidency. After the Edmunds Act of 1882 made unlawful cohabitation a federal crime, Cannon went on the "underground" for several years to evade U.S. marshals. He surrendered in February 1888, pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful cohabitation, and was sentenced to 175 days in the Utah Territorial Penitentiary. He served approximately 5 months (September 1888 - February 1889) and emerged to lead negotiations that produced the LDS Church's 1890 Manifesto ending plural marriage.
