Biography

Frederick Leonard was a Tennessee State University student and Freedom Rider with two documented 1961 arrests: first in Montgomery during the May 17 to 21 Freedom Ride crisis, and again in Jackson, Mississippi on May 28, 1961, from which his Sovereignty Commission identification photograph comes. The Civil Rights Digital Library does not establish when either custody period ended, so no release dates are entered. He later married fellow rider Meryle Joy Reagon.
