Biography
Eric Patrick Brandt, age 49, an anti-government Denver protester, was arrested December 26, 2019 for posting threatening videos against a Denver judge including the judges address and threats to harm the judge and family. Pleaded guilty to felony retaliation against a judge and misdemeanor harassment; sentenced to three concurrent 4-year terms (48 months effective) Colorado state prison. Eric Brandt was a United States Navy veteran and activist who dedicated his life to protesting injustice. He had been arrested over 200 times for stunts like riding the Colorado Spring buses without shoes after they implemented a policy requiring footwear to target the homeless and for handing out jury-nullification literature outside of courthouses explaining how jury members can find someone not guilty if they violate an unjust law. Brandt's numerous arrests resulted in dozens of successful lawsuits against various local government departments and agencies for false arrested. After witnessing a friend be mistreated by a local judge during a case where his friend was being prosecuted for his environmental activism, Brandt stated he would pray for someone to kill the judge in the case and later called on the public to protest in front of the judge's home. Brandt was arrested for this under charges of "criminal retaliation" and after being convicted he was sentenced in 2021 to serve 12-years.
His Colorado sentence, imposed in February 2022, was in fact 12 years — three consecutive 4-year terms for retaliation against a judge. Nearing his Colorado parole eligibility in early 2026, he was taken into federal custody on an Eastern District of Louisiana indictment charging interstate threats, and remains held.
