Biography

White abolitionist raider with John Brown's Harpers Ferry raid in October 1859. Coppock fatally shot Harpers Ferry mayor Fontaine Beckham during the raid; captured along with Brown; convicted of treason, murder, and inciting slave insurrection. Hanged at Charles Town, Virginia on December 16, 1859 — two weeks after Brown.
