Biography
Edward Sanders was a 21-year-old New York University student — not, as sometimes recorded, a Harvard student — who swam toward the nuclear submarine Thomas Edison at New London on June 15, 1961 in the Committee for Non-Violent Action's Polaris Action, was seized by Navy frogmen, and was released within hours. He returned for the August 1961 commissioning protest of the Ethan Allen and received a seventy-seven-day jail sentence for breach of peace and resisting arrest; the precise number of days he ultimately served still needs confirmation.
