Biography

Ed G. Heth was a conscientious objector from Illinois imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 10 years in prison - reduced to 2 years. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 as a CO; interviewed by the Special Board on Feb. 14, 1919 re: 96th article of war, at the Disciplinary Barracks ; sentenced to 10 years in prison - reduced to 2 years; imprisoned on (or about) June 1, 1918
