Biography
Ed Burns was arrested in California and jailed while awaiting trial in the Sacramento IWW case, the federal Espionage Act prosecution of the union's California membership. He was held in the Sacramento County Jail, where he died in November 1918 — one of the five Sacramento defendants who died in the county jail, most during the influenza epidemic, before the case ever came to trial in January 1919.
He is not the Ed Burns of the April 1920 Seattle Globe Building raid, who was arrested with W. E. Spear and Alicia Rosenbaum and has his own record in this database.
