Biography
Dorothy Calhoun was a young Georgia worker whose death was taken up by the Labor Defender in 1937 as one of a series of cases concerning Black workers and the Atlanta police.
She died in Atlanta, and was dead by October 14, 1936. SHE DID NOT DIE IN JAIL. An earlier version of this record stated that she died in custody in a Georgia jail; that is not established. The claim that police mistreatment caused her death is an allegation made by Angelo Herndon, and is recorded here as his allegation rather than as a finding.
