Biography
Daniel H. Wallace was arrested under the Espionage Act for delivering a speech critical of World War I before two thousand people at the Grand Opera House in Davenport, Iowa. Wallace, who had been wounded and gassed while fighting for Britain before the United States' entry into the war, was a staunch opponent of the war. Upon coming to the United States Wallace told the "terrible truth about the trenches and warfare" in lectures and published materials, and he became organizer-general for the anti-war League of Humanity. Wallace was convicted and sentenced to twenty years of imprisonment on October 4, 1917. In prison he went " insane " and died.
