Biography
Charles Rudolph Scott was a member of the New Orleans chapter of the Black Panther Party (organized as the National Committee to Combat Fascism) and one of the defendants arrested after the September 14-15, 1970 police assault on the party's Piety Street headquarters. The Black Panther newspaper listed him as twenty at the time, while a family account calls him nineteen, so he was probably born in 1950 or 1951; no exact birth date has been located. Held in the Orleans Parish Prison, he was acquitted with his codefendants on August 6, 1971, but was reportedly subject to federal and New Haven holds afterward; a family account says he was back in Queens, New York by approximately mid-1972, without establishing when the transfer or release occurred. He died on July 21, 1999, at forty-eight.
