Biography

Charles McDew was chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He was first jailed in 1960 leading the Orangeburg, South Carolina sit-ins, and on Oct. 4, 1961 was arrested again on the courthouse steps in McComb, Mississippi during the student walkout supporting the SNCC voter-registration drive.
