Biography
Charles Joseph Jones — his name also appears as Joseph Charles Jones — was a founding SNCC activist arrested as a Freedom Rider in Montgomery, Alabama on May 25, 1961; the Civil Rights Digital Library holds a Montgomery County Sheriff's Department photograph of him dated that day. He was later jailed twice with Martin Luther King Jr. during the Albany Movement in Georgia. The catalog does not establish the dates or durations of those custody episodes, so the Albany jailings are described here rather than entered as dated case rows.
