Biography

Charles James Faulkner was a former U.S. congressman from Virginia and U.S. minister to France. On returning from his diplomatic post in 1861 he was arrested and held without charge at Fort Warren, then exchanged in December 1861 for the captured Union congressman Alfred Ely. He later served the Confederacy.
