Biography
Carmen Trotta (born November 9, 1962) is an American pacifist and prominent activist in the Catholic Worker Movement. He has been involved in anti-war protests for decades, including opposition to the Iraq War, work with War Resisters League, and co-founding the faith-based group Witness Against Torture.
Trotta was one of the Kings Bay Plowshares 7 who on April 4, 2018 entered the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in Georgia to symbolically protest the U.S. nuclear arsenal. He was convicted in federal court alongside his co-defendants for trespassing and destroying government property. Trotta was sentenced to 14 months in prison for his role in the action, though he served about six months before early release, consistent with the tradition among Plowshares activists of accepting prison as part of their witness against war and nuclear weapons.
